BBQ 2014 193BBQ 2014 324BBQ 2014 342Surrey: Surrey-Newton MLA Harry Bains and Newton North Delta MP Jinny Sims co-hosted a community Barbeque on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Unwin Park.  This is the second year for the shared event in Unwin Park.

This year’s BBQ was the busiest yet with hundreds joining MLA Bains and MP Sims over the afternoon.  Children were entertained by clowns who did face painting and created balloon animals.  Many young people also took advantage of the water park beside the BBQ site.  Families and individuals spent time talking with their representatives.

Many volunteers joined MP Sims and MLA Bains in order to help make this event a success.  After busy sessions in the BC Legislature and the House of Commons, MLA Bains and MP Sims held this BBQ as a way to spend time with constituents in a casual environment.  Over the afternoon, both representatives had the chance to discuss politics and local community issues.

“This was a great way to reconnect with constituents and discuss issues important to them in their neighbourhood,” said MLA Harry Bains. “Families came out to enjoy the park and meet their neighbours. The children had fun at the water park and were delighted with the clowns and face painting.”

Says MP Sims, “I feel so luck to live in this community and have this opportunity to talk about the work I do to represent the people of Newton-North Delta.  This event gets bigger and better every year.  I am so grateful for all of the friends and neighbours who came out to this event to help make it a success.”
