White Rock: Back to back three rallies will be organised on June 20 to highlight the issues begin faced by people White Rock who are living near the beaches. There has been Public outcry across the Lower Mainland over the surprise installation of a locked gate (lock off now) at the West Beach boat ramp created a buzz on the streets of White Rock, started many face book pages, a flurry of email exchanges, and burned the phones to seed momentum to have a public rally. City Hall, Transport Canada, BNSF and nor the MP’s office have released the numbers of citizens that contacted them on the gate and beach access issues. White Rock, BC is home to one of only two public beaches south of the Fraser River on the Semiahmoo Peninsula. For over 100 years the railroad has run along the beach front of this resort town. For most of those years only 3 to 5 trains passed daily, but in recent times the number has jumped significantly to 15 to 20 per day. Many of those trains drag over 130 cars many of which are carrying dangerous goods. Residents want and need access to the beach and ocean in White Rock – but now The City of WR + Transport Canada wants to FENCE it off!
