cell_phone_noVancouver: That will be the first question police will be asking motorists tomorrow after they have been stopped for distracted driving on the North Shore. Several large electronic messaging board’s stating, Police Ahead – Stay Off Your Phone! will be in full view of passing motorists.

A joint police agency Distracted Driving enforcement campaign will be held on Tuesday, March 06, 2018 at the intersections of Capilano Road and Marine Drive in North Vancouver along with Taylor Way and Marine Drive in West Vancouver.

During the afternoon commute drivers will be forewarned of police enforcement ahead of them, said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP. We are giving out this very public warning in the hopes our officers will not catch any violators that day – that may be wishful thinking!

More than 875 crashes occur every day in B.C., many of these caused by distracted driving. Don’t risk it – leave your phone alone!

Participating agencies include North Vancouver RCMP, West Vancouver Police, LMD Traffic Services, and LMD Integrated Road Safety Unit. Community Policing volunteers will also be assisting.

Police and ICBC representatives will be on location for the media at Capilano Road and Marine Drive from 3:15 pm to 4:00 pm.
