Vancouver: The Komagata Maru Heritage Foundation is commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the departure of Komagata Maru from Canada on July 23. The function will start from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Bombay Banquet Hall in Surrey. The keynote speaker in the event is Richard Bird, grandson of, Edward Bird, lawyer representing the passengers of Komagata Maru 100 years ago. Hugh Johnston, note author and researcher on the subject will also talk about his new work on the history of the ship.

Komagata Maru Heritage Foundation President Harbhajan Gill said that tickets for the event are priced at 50 dollars each. Students and seniors can get the tickets for 25 dollars and people with disabilities will have free tickets. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Surrey Food Bank.
