Mexico City, Dec 24 (IANS/EFE) A man apparently committed suicide after killing his wife and six children in Mexico state, which surrounds the federal district and forms part of the Mexico City metropolitan area, state prosecutors said Wednesday.

The bodies were found Tuesday night inside a house in Nueva Aragon, a neighbourhood in the city of Ecatepec, the Mexico state Attorney General’s Office said in a statement.

The bodies of the children — four boys and two girls — were found on a pad, while the mother’s body was on a bed.

The father hanged himself from a window frame, the AG’s office said.

The children appear to have been strangled to death, while their mother sustained blows to the head, abdomen and chest, investigators said.

“The evidence has allowed us to establish the main line of investigation, which is that the adult male was responsible for the deaths of the little ones, as well as that of the woman, and he later committed suicide,” the AG’s office said.

“Once the investigative work focusing on the bodies and the murder scene is finished, this line of investigation or others will be ruled out or strengthened,” prosecutors said.
