Suva: A senior Police officer has been charged for obstructing and failing to assist the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption in an ongoing investigation. Assistant Superintendent Pita Keni has been released on bail with strict conditions imposed by the Nadi Magistrates Court. Keni has been told not to re-offend and to surrender his travel documents with a travel ban placed on him. FICAC alleges Keni failed to cooperate in an ongoing bribery investigation against a former Police officer.
He faces one count of failure to render assistance and one count of resisting or obstructing officers. This is the first time charges have been laid against someone for obstructing FICAC investigations.
