Mumbai: Four men, posing as a ticket-checker and policemen, robbed a 20-year-old student and his parents, who were travelling in a train’s luggage compartment from Kurla to Thane.

The student was on his way to see off his parents who were taking an outstation train in Thane. Besides the four accused, there were eight passengers in the luggage compartment. After the train departed, one of the accused claimed that he was a ticket checker and allegedly asked the family to pay a fine for travelling in the luggage compartment. When they protested, the three other accused, claiming to be cops, allegedly asked them to pay a fine of Rs 1,200.

This led to an argument and the accused forced the family to pay Rs 200. They also assaulted the youth for not paying the entire amount that they had demanded and even tried to snatch his father’s purse. They then fled at Vikhroli station.
