Suva: The lawyer for a foreign national, who is charged with unlawful transportation of illicit drugs, made an application in the High Court in Suva for a statement of how the drugs were tested. Samanunu Vaniqi, who is representing Aiden Alec Hurtado, made the application before Justice Salesi Temo. It is alleged that cocaine weighing 20.5 kg and worth $ 6.1million was found in Hurtado’s luggage when he arrived at Nausori International Airport in February this year. Ms Vaniqi informed the court that they were querying the Government analyst’s report of the content of cocaine because, according to her, it affected the charge. She said the result of the testing by the Government analyst revealed that the content was 51 per cent cocaine in the alleged 20kg. She said that no one in Fiji was accredited or qualified to do tests for cocaine.
