U.S. of House of Representatives members Mike Honda, Sheila Jackson-Lee and Joseph Crowley with Major Kamaljeet Kalsi, a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and one of only three Sikhs to be granted waivers to serve in the U.S. Army with their articles of faith intact, was publicly recognized for his military service by Congressman Joseph Crowley at a Diwali event on Capitol Hill on October 29.

The event was attended by dozens of Congressional staffers and members of Congress. Earlier in the day, Major Kalsi visited several Congressional offices to build support for the right of all Sikhs to serve in the U.S. military.

The Sikh Coalition is encouraging Sikhs to sign and share their petition to President Obama in support of equal opportunity for all Sikh Americans who wish to serve in the U.S. military.
