BCNU President Debra McPherson said on Wednesday that the mental health plan announced by the health ministry is a start but questions what will happen to other mentally ill people who are not high risk.
“Vancouver and many other BC communities, both rural and urban, need comprehensive plans to deal with mental health problems,” said McPherson. “This kind of piecemeal approach is a concern. It helps only the few seriously mentally ill who are in crisis. A long term plan developed in consultation with frontline healthcare providers should be considered, one that recognizes the role of community nursing.”
