Sims celebrate Diwali with seniors

HARRY Bains, MLA for Surrey-Newton, Bruce Ralston, MLA for Surrey Whalley, and Jinny Sims, MP for Newton North Delta, celebrated the festival of Diwali and Bandi Chorh Divas on Sunday. They met the seniors at the Surrey Delta Indo-Canadian Seniors Society, Unwin Park and the Newton Athletic Park.
Instead of traditional sweets being handed out at Diwali they distributed dry fruits and nuts packs to the seniors.
We were proud to share the valuable lessons and wisdom, symbolized with the celebration of Diwali, said the elected reps.

Diwali is the “Festival of Light” which ensures that the struggle against greed, cruelty and injustice in our society continues. While rooted in the culture of India, Diwali has become a part of the diverse cultural fabric in British Columbia. As we take part in each other’s festivals and traditions, it gives us all a sense of pride in the makeup of our multicultural province, they added.

It also gave us the opportunity to meet our constituents in such a relaxed atmosphere, we are able to listen to the issues and improve our connection with the seniors’ community, they said.
