Shawnigan Lake: RCMP attended the scene of a two vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway at South Shawnigan Lake Road on July 7.

Preliminary information indicates that a motorcyclist was traveling in the northbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH), when he was struck by an SUV turning into the same northbound lane of the TCH, from South Shawnigan Lake Road.  The SUV was driven by a 41 year old Victoria woman, who was not injured in the collision.

The motorcyclist, a 65 year old Langford man, sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash.  Despite the efforts of emergency medical services at the scene and en route to the hospital, he has since passed away.

Sgt. Scott Stephen, Detachment Commander for the Shawnigan Lake RCMP said, “our thoughts are with this man’s family and friends. We’d like to extend our appreciation to those who rendered assistance at the scene, and for the patience shown by everyone who was delayed as we completed our investigation.”

An RCMP Collision Analyst/Reconstructionist attended the scene of the crash to conduct a detailed investigation into the cause.
