Islamabad: Pakistan is not considering a proposal to provide arms to Syrian rebels as urged by Saudi Arabia said the Pakistan Foreign Office.

“No such proposal is under consideration,” foreign office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said in reply to a query about reported Saudi pressure for providing arms to Syrian rebels.

Pakistani govt. made a major shift in its policy on Syria after the recent visit by Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz. The Pakistan government called for installation of a transitional government in Damascus. This was interpreted as a call for President Bashar Al Assad to step down.
