Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in recognition of B.C. Family Day:

“Battling the COVID-19 pandemic over the last year has highlighted the fundamental importance of family like never before in our lifetimes.

“As we stayed home to keep others safe, it has brought many of us closer and strengthened the bonds we have to family members living in our homes. For many others, it has meant painful separation from loved ones at times of both celebration and hardship. While we must limit our B.C. Family Day celebrations to our households this year, let’s take this time to connect virtually with our extended family and friends.

“Let’s also remember there is hope on the horizon and much to be optimistic about as we look to the future. Our family members in long-term care have all been offered their first shots of vaccine and outbreaks have already been dramatically reduced. The largest immunization program in the history of B.C. will begin this spring, and we can finally look to the day when we will be able to put the pandemic in our rear view.

“I am hopeful next year we will once again be able to enjoy the extra time B.C. Family Day affords us to safely connect in person with all those we love. For now, I urge all British Columbians to follow Dr. Bonnie Henry’s guidelines – to stay close to home and to enjoy today with the people in your household.

“Happy B.C. Family Day to everyone in this beautiful province.”
