Surrey: The Surrey RCMP and the Fraser Valley Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU) issued over 50 violation tickets for a number of motor vehicle act offences during project Swoop. These included speeding (55%) and seatbelt violations (20%) as the two highest ticketed infractions. Other high risk driving behaviours (distracted driving and intersections) also found drivers at the receiving end of a fine.

The Project Swoop campaign took place at various high collision locations throughout the city and included a number of volunteers with Surrey RCMP Speed Watch, Surrey Crime Prevention Society, and ICBC Road Safety Team. Our teams were strategically deployed to a total of 12 different locations throughout the day.

It is all about increasing our visibility while targeting those high risk driving behaviours which are the main causes of collisions, says Surrey RCMP Traffic Services Sgt. Gary Clarke.
