LOCAL high school art students have generously donated their talent, time and effort towards a festive and creative event this holiday season. On Saturday, November 30, between 1 and 3 p.m., the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association is hosting a Santa Window Walk to connect local businesses, charities / non-profits, and students for an afternoon of music, cheer and holiday spirit.

Windows of participating businesses will be displaying designs painted by skilled students from the following schools: Guildford Park Secondary, Fleetwood Park Secondary, Frank Hurt Secondary, Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary, and Sullivan Heights Secondary.

In total, 14 seasonal windows will reflect a designated local charity / non-profit. On Saturday, November 30, these organizations will be placed in front of their respective window and encourage the community to donate towards their cause by offering fun activities or entertainment. The Surrey Christmas Bureau will fill the air with the energetic music from steel drummers at their Toy Depot. Try your luck with the Candy Cane Pull at Prospera Credit Union (13747 104 Avenue), swing by Kinsmen Place Lodge’s choir at the Round-up Café, and warm yourself up with the Surrey Hospice Society’s hot chocolate at the Quattro Sales Centre (Whalley Boulevard between 107A and 108 Avenue).

Groups involved include: Surrey Christmas Bureau, Surrey Food Bank, Centre for Child Development, Sophie’s Place, Surrey Urban Mission, Nightshift Street Ministries, Arts Umbrella, RCMP Youth Division, KidSport, Whalley Scouts, Surrey Hospice, Kinsmen Lodge, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, and the North Surrey Lions Club. The window generating the highest amount will receive a cash award – one for the artists and one for the charity.

Pick up your passport at the Quattro Development and receive stamps by visiting all the windows to win prizes donated by PriceSmart Foods, Central City Brewing Company and Teaopia! In addition to businesses with painted windows, “Snowflake Stops” (stores displaying a snowflake sticker) will be open to participants who can stop by and pick up an entry form to win a gift basket. Draws will take place at Prospera Credit Union on November 30 at 2:55 p.m.

Participants are welcome to park at the free parking spots located across the street from the Quattro Development.

The Downtown Surrey BIA encourages you to join the free festive event to support 14 local charities / non-profits and businesses this holiday season on Saturday, November, 30 between 1 and 3 p.m.
