Surrey Newton Rotary TheDebaterRotary Club of Surrey-Newton to share an exciting opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills and earn a scholarship. The Rotary Club of Surrey-Newton Rotary is hosting “The Debaters” event – a debate competition on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Taj Park Convention Centre 8580 132 Street, Surrey. Entry for the debate is open to all Grade 11 and 12 Canadian public school students. The winning debate team will receive a $15,000 scholarship ($3000 per student) for post-secondary education tuition fees.

There is no entry fee for the debate. Students are asked to submit a 300-word essay about  why they should be a part of this debate competition. The application package and
additional information is available at www.TheDebater.ca. Our selection committee will review the applications and select 20 students to compete in the debates. The 20 students
will be assigned into 4 random groups (in teams with 5 students per team). There will be a head to head debate between teams 1 & 2, and teams 3 & 4. The winner of each side will
move onto the finals and debate each other. The winning debate team will receive a $15,000 scholarship ($3000 per student) for post-secondary education tuition fees.
