SHAKTI: Empowerment of Women, Children and Families Society is committed to awakening the power within all members of the community. One of the surest ways to empowerment is through education and self awareness. In this spirit, Shakti Society held its 2nd Annual Women’s Wellness Day in partnership with the Surrey SFU campus on Sunday, September 15. The goal of this day was to give women the opportunity to make time for themselves to connect with other women, to learn and share and to experience healthy indulgences like massage, manicures, henna, the oxygen bar and stress relievers like yoga and dance.

Participants began the day with yoga led by Sonia Andhi, founder of Shakti Society. Brandi Liefso, founder of Karmaface Cosmetics, inspired everyone by sharing her story of struggle, challenges and success, as well as her spirit of giving back to the community.
STORY-3-ITEM-8-Photo-5Women from all walks of life and from far and wide attended the event and had the opportunity to experience various modalities to improve their health and wellness including, make-up application, aromatherapy, samplings of natural and organic products to promote wellness.

Workshops were also offered ranging from aromatherapy – making your own scent, goal setting, anxiety – causes, symptoms, treatment, financial wellness and estate planning and internet safety, health and technology.

The day ended on a high note with an energizing dance workshop led by Shareen Teja.
Sonia Andhi and Anu Pala, event coordinators, thanked all those who helped make this event a success including SFU Surrey, sponsors, donors, vendors, facilitators, volunteers and guests.
