In a conversation with Asian Journal, Tom Gill spoke about his efforts in improving the work conditions for Truckers in the city. He says truckers are important part of our community and economy and he has been working to streamline their parking issues. In meetings with MLAs and Ministers, Tom Gill represented City of Surrey for the parking issue. He says he is been instrumental in hiring a Trucking coordinator, his major successes in this have been voluntarily removal of majority of ALR truck parking sites, his efforts have yielded 6 permanent and 1 TUP authorised sites on the industrial lands for third party parking plus 1 TUP for a specific companies parking. He further added that he is currently collaborating with highest levels in Provincial government to find further solutions to the truck parking issue. Right now he is involved in exploring the possibilities of creating new truck parking zone to set appropriate requirements that facilitate successful permanent facilities.
