The US, Britain, Europe and Canada on Saturday moved to block ‘certain’ Russian banks from accessing the Swift international payment system as part of another round of sanctions against Moscow.

The measures, which will also include restrictions on the Russian central bank’s international reserves, will be implemented in the coming days, the nations said in a joint statement.

In addition to the supplies announced by Mr Scholz, they said Germany would give 400 German-made rocket propelled grenades to Ukraine through the Netherlands and 14 armoured personnel carriers. It will also supply 10,000 tonnes of fuel via Poland and further supplies to Ukraine are being considered.
