3 arrested including a cop, Indian Police searching accused NRI

Ludhiana: A US based NRI hatched a conspiracy and implanted 3 kg opium in the car used by his Canadian NRI brother to entangle his brother and his friends in a false case, with the help of his aides including a head constable of Punjab Police in July 2012 following a property dispute.

Indian police had registered a case in NDPS act and initiated investigation. After 20 months long investigation the police cracked the case with the arrest of three, including the cop. The USA based NRI Harcharan Singh, his aide Lakhbir Singh Lakhi of a Ludhiana village; Manoj Yadav and Pawanjit Singh Pamma are still at large.


Yielding about the arrest Additional Deputy Commissioner of the police (ADCP) city-3 Satbir Singh Atwal told Asian Journal that on July 19, 2012 the police had recovered 3 kg opium from a car parked backside court complex and registered the case.


Owner of the car Vipan Kumar had suspected that someone had planted the opium to entangle him in a forge case. Vipan Kumar had further alleged that He had power of attorney of property of NRI Harbhajan Singh of Canada, whose dispute over property with his NRI brother Harcharan Singh over 5 acre agricultural land was under trial in the court. The police formed a special Investigation team led by IPS officer Swapan Sharma.


The ADCP stated that besides civil cases Harbhajan Singh had lodged two cases including kidnapping and opening fire against his brother Harcharan Singh at police station Sadar on April 15, 2009 and September 7, 2010, respectively. Harcharan Singh was pressurizing Harbhajan for compromise in the case.


To pressurize Harbhajan Singh he had hatched a conspiracy and in collusion with Lakhbir Singh Lakhi, Head Constable Jugraj Singh and others, had implanted 3 kg opium in the car of Vipan Kumar, who along with Harbhajan Singh had come to court complex for hearing of the case on July 19, 2012.


After completing the investigation the police have arrested cop Jugraj Singh and following his statement the police have arrested Gagandeep Singh alias Robin and Gurmeet Singh alias kali. Gagandeep and Gurmeet Singh had procured opium and handed over to the accused. The police have also impounded their motorcycle used in crime.


Inspector Dharampal, SHO at police station division 5 said the police have added section 28 and 29 of NDPC act in the FIR. He said the police launched a manhunt for the arrest of rest of the accused. He said the police have been investigating to know whether Harcharan Singh is still in India or fled to USA.
