Burnaby:  On Monday night just after 9:30pm, Burnaby RCMP received a report of shots fired in the 3900 block of Forest Street.

Upon arrival a male was located suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. BC Ambulance Service and the Burnaby Fire Department attended and the victim was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has conduct and is working closely with the Burnaby RCMP.

The victim has been identified as 29 year old Coquitlam resident Christopher Alexander HURTADO, also known as Christopher Alexander SERRANO.  While it remains too early to confirm a motive, investigators believe this to be a targeted shooting.

Witnesses describe a dark coloured sedan vehicle leave the area east-bound on Forest Street and through MacDonald Avenue.  While on Forest Street, the dark sedan drove into a parked vehicle causing damage to both.  Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen this damaged dark sedan vehicle after 9:30 pm on June 13th, 2016 to contact police.

“This is another example of a brazen shooting in a busy residential neighbourhood potentially putting the public at risk.  IHIT would like to thank the public for the many tips received thus far as we know that many of our successful investigations are as a result of the public working efficiently with police and bringing information forward.” says S/Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

The scene was cordoned off in the 3900 block of Forest Street from Smith Avenue to MacDonald Avenue.  The scene has now been processed and is no longer being held, however, neighbourhood and video canvassing will continue throughout the evening.
