2017-buick-lacrosseThe 2017 Buick LaCrosse is a handsome-looking full-size performance sedan that’s been winning accolades recently for its stunning ground –up redesign. The new LaCrosse definitely   looks the part with its sleek, dramatic side profile, low roofline, and new design waterfall grille.   Subtle chrome detailing and sharp body creases set off the exterior. Not only is the new LaCrosse longer, lower, and wider than the current model, it’s is also 300 pounds lighter, quieter and more powerful than the outgoing version. The new LaCrosse is powered by an all-new 3.6-litre V6 engine with direct injection that delivers 305 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque through a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The new V6 engine is also more efficient and comes with features such as Active Fuel Management, a system that can temporarily deactivate two of the V6’s cylinders in optimum driving conditions to save fuel. There is also an engine Stop/Start system that will shut down the engine in certain driving conditions for example at red lights or in stopped traffic. Canadians will also like the fact the Buick LaCrosse arrives in an All-Wheel Drive version with a new twin-clutch system that allows torque to be split between the rear wheels for better performance.  The base, but well equipped LaCrosse starts from around $39,730, while the loaded “Premium” All wheel Drive edition as tested starts at $47,500.

The interior of the 2017 Buick LaCrosse is also a revelation, with its rich mix of premium materials, attractive design and high quality. The Ebony leather perforated seats all around are excellent; very comfortable with full power adjustment and are beautifully tailored.   Interior leg and headroom in all quarters is amazingly good with limo-like room in the back and a rear cargo space is rated at 7% larger than the old mode.  Our premium equipped Onyx black painted tester came with very well equipped with navigation system, Bluetooth streaming, Apple Car play, Android connectivity and a full host of power features. There was also a slew of options on our tester such as the Driver Confidence Package that add Automatics Park Assist, Front Pedestrian Detection, and Adaptive Cruise Control. The Sun and Shade Package option added a tilt sliding power panoramic sunroof and rear power sunshade. Lastly; the Sight and Sound package added Buick Intellilink Radio with navigation and Bose Centerpoint Surround Audio System with 11 speakers. Safety is also well catered for, with a comprehensive slew of driver and passenger safety features.

On the road, the 2017 Buick LaCrosse is wonderfully entertaining to drive. Acceleration is quick and smooth with a seamless transition through the low and mid- range of the tach. The lighter weight does wonders in the handling department for the LaCrosse. Tight corners and sweeping bends can be taken in stride as the limited slip rear differential tightens up and provides better lateral stability when pushed. Pushing the Sport button tightens the steering, firms the suspension, quickens the throttle response and adjusts the eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy (litres/100 km) is rated at: 11.1 city, 8.4 highway, 9.9 combined. Perhaps the most amazing thing about the LaCrosse apart from the incredibly roomy cabin is the sheer serenity and smooth ride for occupants. It is more akin to being in a luxury limo than a performance sedan. With its powerful engine, lightweight body and world class interior appointments and features, the 2017 Buick LaCrosse is a winner. If you are in the market for a fast, premium sports sedan, well look no further. Highly recommended.
