New Delhi: New women and child development minister of India, Maneka Gandhi decided to connect with people directly through social media and email in a bid to make her office more accessible. She also evinced keen interest in adoption and wanted a mechanism to ensure every child found a family, said a source.

Ministry officials told her about the need for amendment of laws, including the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000 and Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.

Maneka said she wanted a Facebook account for the WCD ministry, including a page for complaints on issues related to women and children, sexual offences and atrocities. Besides complaints, people can directly interact or enquire about a host of related issues, including adoption on the Facebook page.
