REGINA: It was a roller-coaster of emotions for Regina’s Brittany Petrisor who celebrated her birthday, got engaged and lost everything in an apartment fire in one day.
Petrisor was babysitting her neighbour’s three young girls in her west-side block on Sunday when she was awakened by the sound of a smoke detector.
She and her visiting Minnesota boyfriend, Greg Blanks, got everyone out of the six-unit building, then called 911 and watched as firefighters tackled the blaze.
Greg escaped with only the clothes on his back and asked crews if they could retrieve something very special _ a diamond engagement ring he planned to surprise Brittany with over dinner.
The ring was retrieved but his surprise blown, Greg popped the question on the spot and Brittany quickly said yes.
The couple, along with about a dozen other residents, will be receiving help from Regina’s mobile crisis unit. (Global Regina)
