distracted-drivingChilliwack:  Drivers fell under watchful eyes as police looked for folks operating motor vehicles while utilizing electronic devices.

Officers of the Chilliwack RCMP Traffic Section supported by members of Chilliwack Speed Watch targeted the intersection of Vedder and Keith Wilson Roads from 10 a.m. to noon on September 29, 2016 watching for distracted drivers. The two hour traffic enforcement operation ended with police issuing 3 Distracted Driving and 5 Seat belt violation tickets to drivers.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.  No call or text is so important that it’s worth risking your life or the lives of other motorists,” says Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson of the UFVRD.

Distracted driving is preventable:

  • Leave your phone alone and minimize potential distractions before you head out on the road.
  • Plan your route and secure your pets.
  • Keep your eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel.
  • Even the sound of an incoming email or text can be distracting; turn off your phone and put it out of reach.
