Volkswagen is having good success with its sedan line up in China and the recent Shanghai Auto show was the place for the German company to debut its new C Coupe GTE. Larger than the current Canadian Passat sedan, the new GTE is a taste of what future VW sedans could look like. Power train could comprise a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that combines a 207-hp turbocharged four-cylinder TSI engine with an electric motor integrated with the eight-speed automatic transmission. VW claims a combined power output of 242 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, and an all-electric driving range of about 50 km, at speeds up to around 130 km/h. The GTE would be a premium sedan with features such as rear electric window blinds and electrochromic sunroof glass controlled via touchscreens on the console between the rear seats. VW are still to decide if and when the production model based on this concept will make it to North America.
